2009 Seminar: "Facing up to International Tax Investigations":
Guernsey 19th and 26th November 2009, OGH
Our popular annual seminar on tax fraud and investigations will take place on
two consecutive Thursday mornings at the OGH in November and provides a vital
update with the latest cases being reviewed.
The publicity given to tax agreements, OECD lists and the new US government’s
views have excited media interest in the Channel Islands, not all of which
is welcome. Guernsey has been in the forefront of the scramble to sign Tax
Information Exchange Agreements which because of their novelty have been
little tested in Court. It is not an exaggeration to say that what is now
in issue is the very survival of offshore financial centres such as Guernsey.
Tax Information Exchange and enforcement coupled with calls for a minimum
corporate tax rate could well be the battleground that decides this issue.
St John Robilliard of Ozannes has been involved in many international tax
investigations impacting in Guernsey. The 2009 Legal 500 describes him as “impressive” and “a
brilliant lawyer” and he is a frequent speaker both in the Channel
Islands and abroad having spoken recently in Zurich, Geneva and (shortly)
Dubai. Download
